Zinedine Zidane one of several coaches asked to replace Mauricio Pochettino at PSG in January

As reported by Le Parisien and Foot Mercato, PSG asked several coaches to replace current boss Mauricio Pochettino last month but the Argentine coach is now likely to finish the season in Paris after those discussions proved fruitless.

Having failed to win Ligue 1 last season or top their Champions League group this autumn before being knocked out of the Coupe de France by OGC Nice this week, Pochettino’s record is well below expectations while PSG fans remain frustrated by the Argentine’s style of play. As a result, the Paris club actively sought to place Pochettino in January and asked a variety of coaches to replace him with immediate effect.

Zinedine Zidane was the prime candidate for the role but, according to TF1, Zizou was keen to avoid facing his former club, Real Madrid, in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month while it was an issue that the current PSG squad supposedly does not suit the former Bordeaux and Juventus player’s style. He too had an issue with the way the club is being run, say Le Parisien, and turned PSG’s advances down as a result.
