Diego Costa calls Atletico Madrid team-mate Kieran Trippier ‘Rooney 10 times a day’, says the former Tottenham defender

The pair became team-mates when the full-back completed a £20million move to Atletico Madrid in July.

“He calls me Rooney 10 times a day. He does it all the time, just for a laugh. But it’s Diego, I don’t care,” he told Marca.

“We all find it funny and I like that he always makes jokes.”

Trippier, who has started seven of the club’s nine LaLiga games, is enjoying life in Spain and is happy to call former Chelsea striker Costa a team-mate.

“I knew him from the Premier League and he’s the funniest player I’ve ever played with,” he said.

“There’s a great atmosphere here and everyone makes jokes, but Costa is the funniest.”

Trippier has played a crucial role in an Atletico side that has the best defensive record in LaLiga this term, conceding just three goals.

His form also earned him a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad last month.

Speaking about his transition from London to Madrid, Trippier added: “The adaptation has been perfect.
