Transfer news and football gossip: Tottenham keen on two former Premier League stars, Aston Villa eye Chelsea outcast Pedro, Patrick Vieira wants Arsenal job
Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion with Marouane Fellaini. The Tottenham boss has made contact with the Belgium midfielder, who he worked with at Manchester United. Fellaini joined Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng at the beginning of the year, but could be tempted back to England by Mourinho. The 32-year-old won the League Cup and Europa League while playing under the Portuguese coach at Old Trafford. Fellaini has 10-and-a-half years’ worth of Premier League experience with Everton and United. (FULL STORY)
Edin Dzeko is another former Premier League star who is being targeted by Mourinho. The 33-year-old won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and League Cup during a successful four-year spell with Man City, before leaving for Roma in 2015. Since joining the Italian side, Dzeko has netted 68 goals in 152 Serie A games. There is no senior cover for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, a problem which Dzeko could solve for Mourinho. (Mirror)
Jamie Vardy is a better striker than Harry Kane, according to former England and Manchester United defender Paul Parker. The Leicester striker scored for the eighth consecutive Premier League game in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa to take his 2019/20 tally to 16 goals. He has found the net seven more times than Kane in the top-flight this term. (FULL STORY)
Inter Milan want to sign Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso. The Spain international has not made a matchday squad since being taken off at half-time in last month’s 4-4 draw with Ajax in the Champions League. Academy graduate Reece James has been preferred at right-back with captain Cesar Azpilicueta moving over to the left side. When asked about Alonso’s recent absence, Blues manager Frank Lampard claimed it was down to selection. (Calciomercato)
Simon Jordan is still adamant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not the manager to restore the glory days at Manchester United, despite securing impressive wins over Tottenham and Man City in the space of three days last week. United are up to fifth in the Premier League table and five points off fourth-placed Chelsea. Solskjaer’s job has been under increasing pressure since Mauricio Pochettino, who was previously linked to the Old Trafford hotseat, was sacked by Tottenham last month. (FULL STORY)
Arsenal are expected to renew their interest in Wilfried Zaha when the January transfer window opens. The Gunners have been linked with a big-money move for the Crystal Palace winger for the past few transfer windows, and had a £40million bid rejected in the summer. The north London club paid £72million for Nicolas Pepe instead, however, the Ivory Coast forward is yet to score from open play in the Premier League. Arsenal are set to face competition from Chelsea in the race to sign Zaha, with the Blues’ able to do business after their two-window transfer ban was reduced. (Express)
