Jorge Sampaoli wants assurances on transfers as Marseille look to renew contract
L’Équipe report that Marseille are looking to renew manager Jorge Sampaoli’s contract, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season, but the Argentine wants assurances regarding the club’s transfer activity.
The former Chile coach indicated in his press conference yesterday that he would sit down with the management to discuss his future, or in his words “what the club can offer me and what I can offer to the club”.
Having arrived in February of 2021, Sampaoli has impressed those in charge at Marseille, who want to keep him for several seasons beyond 2023.
Club president Pablo Longoria is notably convinced that he is the right man to both qualify the team for the Champions League on a consistent basis as well as getting the most out of the team to maximise transfer revenue.
The main issue in the negotiations is the club’s transfer market ambitions rather than his salary, with Sampaoli calling for more arrivals as the prospect of a Champions League campaign next season takes shape.
