Real Madrid swap white for green third strip in Espanyol game to raise awareness for climate change

Zinedine Zidane’s side wore the third kit for the home clash with Espanyol on Saturday as the Spanish capital hosts the UN’s COP 25 Climate Change summit, which begins on 7 December and runs until 13 December.

It will be the second time the club have taken to the field in this kit, but will be the first in an official match, having stepped out in it during a pre-season game.

“This initiative is part of the club’s support for the Castellana Verde initiative and falls in line with the 25th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25),” said a Real Madrid statement.

The club have also erected a huge banner on the front of the stadium which will remain in place for the duration of week-long COP summit.
