Manchester United’s David de Gea picks up unwanted statistic in Watford defeat after second-half blunder
De Gea, who has failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 13 top-flight games, gifted the Hornets their opening goal at Vicarage Road after Ismaila’s Sarr shot slipped through his hands and into the net.
It is the longest run of De Gea’s career to date without a shot-out, and to make matters worse just minutes later Troy Deeney emphatically slammed home a penalty – meaning at that stage of the game he had conceded both shots he had faced on target.
Even more concerningly, both for De Gea and United, is that since the start of last season no player has made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than the Spaniard (6).
The Red Devils stopper is tied with Arsenal’s Bernd Leno, while Martin Dubravka (Newcastle), Asmir Begovic (Bournemouth) and Jordan Pickford (Everton) have made five during the same period of time.
