Clermont scored their own version of the try from the end of the world and it was glorious

WHEN THIS CLERMONT team is put in the ground and a mason begins to etch words onto their tombstone, there won’t be many trophies for people to read about but it should at least say, ‘they always kept us entertained’.

Sure, they substitute closing out tight games with a mixture of cowardice and headlessness but when they are at their peak, there is almost no team in the world you are better off watching.

Just take a look at this try they scored in their 28-16 win over Bayonne last weekend. Back row Peceli Yato finished it off, but you would almost lose count of the number players involved amid the flurry of offloads.

Clermont host Northampton in the Champions Cup quarter-final and are currently second in the Top 14. Will the end of this season be any different to years past?

And to go all the way back to the title of the piece, where does Clermont’s try rank with this beauty from France against the All Blacks back in 1994?

That unnecessary last pass is so damn French.

H/T to Rugby Onslaught.
