Riyad Mahrez: “PSG are the favourites” for the Champions League
Following Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 last night, Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez spoke to Canal+ Sport Afrique about both his and PSG’s results.
“No, no it wasn’t a formality. It wasn’t easy. We made sure that it was comfortable for us. We started very strong. Even if it wasn’t exceptional in the first half, we were clinical, efficient, we scored and that’s what makes the difference,” said the former Le Havre player.
Continuing his critical stance, the 3-time Premier League winner said, “yeah it’s still good for sure. The objective is to get through to the next round and if we can get the job done in the first leg that’s great. We scored five goals so we just have to keep going.”
Having been informed of PSG’s narrow victory over Real Madrid, which was going on simultaneously to his own game, Mahrez said, “oh they won? Oh that’s good – it’s still open then.” Asked whether they might meet in the final, he responded, “oh no we’re a long way from that. PSG are the favourites.”
