Rassie Erasmus: ‘Positive discussions’ held between Springboks director of rugby and World Rugby
South African Rugby have confirmed in a statement that Springboks director of rugby Rassie Erasmus had a “positive” meeting with World Rugby on Thursday.
Erasmus received a two-match ban from World Rugby for criticising refereeing decisions on Twitter only months after fulfilling a lengthy ban for the infamous video on referee Nic Berry in 2021.
However, the statement claims there was agreement that the process between match officials and teams could be improved to ultimately better the game.
“World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin, and World Rugby Director of Rugby, Phil Davies, met with South Africa Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus on Thursday and held positive discussions regarding recent events and match official communications in general,” the statement wrote.
Further dialogue required
“Views were exchanged resulting in a better understanding of the respective positions.
“There was agreement that further dialogue was needed in terms of enhancing the process that operates between teams and match officials to ensure all can play their part in creating great spectacles and avoid frustration but in a way that underpins the respect for match officials, coaches and players.”
More information is expected to be released following the Springboks’ final Test of the year against England at Twickenham in what is set to be a classic clash.
