WATCH: Tate McDermott sends a clear message to Eddie Jones, scoring a blinder in defeat to the Brumbies
Queensland Reds scrum-half Tate McDermott scored a superb solo try in a spirited performance in his team’s 52-24 defeat to the Brumbies in Friday’s Super Rugby Pacific clash in Brisbane.
The Brumbies scored two late tries to blow out the scoreline and notch up half a century, but the Reds were bold in their efforts, scoring three tries.
The pick of the Reds’ try was from McDermott, who scored an astounding solo try from a lineout.
Tate McDermott’s stunner
The scrum-half got the ball at the front of a lineout and fended off Brumbies‘ lock Cadeyrn Neville.
He then skipped over the halfway line and bamboozled Nic White with his slick footwork and finally threw a dummy that Andy Muirhead bought and went speeding away to score.

It was a statement try from the halfback who Wallabies coach Eddie Jones excluded in his first training squad of the year.
It also came off the back of his re-signing with the Reds and Rugby Australia until 2027.
Isaac Henry added the extras to give the Reds a 14-7 lead after 25 minutes.

The hosts started the match well, with Matthew Faessler scoring in the sixth minute. However, a yellow card – later upgraded to a red – for Angus Blyth put Brad Thorn’s side on the back foot.
Referee Ben O’Keefe issued a yellow card to the lock for a shocking tackle on Brumbies’ back Corey Toole, ending both players’ games.
Tom Wright’s try in the 15th minute, converted by Noah Lolesio, levelled the scores before McDermott put the Reds back in the lead.
The battle for the lead continued with Ben O’Donnell dotting down for the Brumbies before full-back Wright was sin-binned.

Henry added a penalty for the Reds, but the Brumbies would lead 21-17 at half-time thanks to a late Lachlan Lonergan try.
Len Ikitau and Tamati Tua scored in the first quarter of the second half to push the Brumbies into a 38-17 lead. Fraser McReight would get one back for the Reds, but that would be their final say on the scoreline, with Rob Valetini and Nick Frost securing the win for the visitors.
