Everton winger Bernard suffers knee ligament damage in Brighton defeat as Marco Silva’s woes continue

The 27-year-old was forced off in the 30th minute of the Toffees’ 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

An Everton statement said: “Everton Football Club can confirm Bernard suffered an injury to his right knee during our game against Brighton on Saturday.

“Scans have subsequently revealed the Brazilian has sustained a grade 2 medial ligament injury.

“Everton medical staff will speak with the club’s knee consultant in the coming days to ensure the fastest possible return to play.”

Lucas Digne’s injury-time own goal condemned Everton to a fifth Premier League defeat in six matches.

The result heaped even more pressure on Toffees boss Marco Silva, with his side in 16th place and two points above the relegation zone after 10 games.

Everton led twice at the Amex Stadium and Silva felt his players could have done more to hold on to their advantage.

He said: “I know they are humans, in some moments some decisions can make you a little bit more nervous, not thinking.
