Huge Loss For Farmers As Untimely Snowfall Destroys Apple Crop Worth Rs 1000 Crore In Kashmir

The state of Jammu and Kashmir was greeted with the season’s first snowfall on Saturday. Pristine white snow covered every inch of the valley as people rejoiced. However, the snowfall which came earlier than expected has hit the locals and their horticulture business. 700 people had to be evacuated from their homes as many were left stranded under heavy snowfall. Food and basic amenities were provided to the rescued from Anantnag, Banihal areas.

A nine-year-old girl belonging to a nomadic family was also killed in a landslide in Rajouri district. The fruit growers, however, are in sorrow over the loss of their apple orchards that were worth a thousand crore at least. All Valley Fruit Growers Association chairman Bashir Ahmad Bhat said almost 20% of the apple crop may have been damaged in South Kashmir alone and put the estimated loss at Rs 1,000 crore, the Hindustan Times reported.Click Here: Cardiff Blues Store
