Arsenal interim boss Freddie Ljungberg plans talks with Mesut Ozil after angry reaction to substitution in Man City defeat

The Gunners were undone by first-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne (2) and Raheem Sterling at the Emirates.

And Ozil paid the price for Arsenal’s lack of attacking threat when he was hooked off for academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe in the 59th minute.

The German playmaker was booed by his own fans for walking off the pitch too slowly, before kicking his gloves away in frustration as he made his way to the bench.

When asked if he would be speaking to Ozil about his outburst, Arsenal interim boss Ljungberg told talkSPORT: “Yeah, of course.

“It’s something we need to discuss, things like that.

“The fans were not happy when he walked off either. So, it’s something we need to talk about.”

Ljungberg has overseen one win, two draws and two defeats since Arsenal sacked manager Unai Emery last month.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of top managers, including Carlo Ancelotti and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the club do not appear to be close to appointing a permanent successor to Emery – and Ljungberg admits a decision needs to be made soon.

He said: “It’s important they take a decision either way.

“For example, we have Per Mertesacker, the academy manager [and interim assistant], he’s doing two jobs and he’s trying to help.
