The Gunners are on the verge of appointing the Spaniard, who is currently assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at City, as their new manager.

The 37-year-old spent five years at the Emirates as a player and has since flourished as Guardiola’s assistant, helping City win back-to-back domestic titles.

Three-time Champions League winning coach Ancelotti is also poised to become the next Everton boss after agreeing a deal with the Premier League club, following his departure from Napoli earlier this month.

And despite the Italian’s stellar CV, Cascarino has explained why choosing the more fresh-faced boss is the right call from the club.

“Someone like Carlo Ancelotti — an arm-around-the-shoulder manager who creates a plan that he trusts his players to follow — won’t work at Arsenal.

“There isn’t a single player who fully pulls his weight, no good, honest professionals there, and they have no-one who understands how to manage a game,” Casc wrote in his column for The Times.
