Ryan Sessegnon makes first Premier League start for Tottenham vs Brighton with Heung-min Son suspended

Sessegnon, the England youngster who joined Spurs earlier this year, has been restricted to only two substitute appearances in the top flight so far this term, though he has started in the Champions League – scoring in last month’s defeat by Bayern Munich.

He comes into the starting XI today, however, with Jose Mourinho handing Sessegnon an opportunity in place of Heung-min Son, who is suspended following the red card he received playing against Chelsea last week.

Spurs lost 2-0 to their London rivals in that clash and will hope to get back to winning ways against Brighton, who stunned Mauricio Pochettino and his players when the two sides met at the Amex in October.

The Seagulls made five changes, with Lewis Dunk missing from the squad and Neal Maupay and Davy Propper left on the bench.

A defeat for Brighton could see them end Boxing Day only two points clear of the relegation places, while a win may move them as high as 11th.

Spurs on the other hand could move into the top five with a victory or end the day in the bottom half of the table should they lose and other results go against them.
