The Scot is back for his second spell in the Hammers hotseat, signing an 18-month contract, following Manuel Pellegrini’s sacking on Saturday.

Moyes initially took charge of West Ham in November 2017 on a short-term deal until the end of the season after the sacking of Slaven Bilic.

The team were in the relegation zone at the time of his appointment and he steered them clear of danger to a 13th place finish.

He was not offered an extension to his contract, however, and was replaced by Pellegrini at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Now he has been drafted back in after his successor failed to improve the club’s fortunes despite being backed heavily in the transfer market.

Moyes is set to bring back the coaching team he had in his previous spell at the London Stadium, with club legend Stuart Pearce and Alan Irvine expected to again assist him.

Moyes said: “It’s fabulous to be back. It feels great to be home. I’ve missed being here because I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed being around the stadium and I loved being in this part of the world and I missed the club, so I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m feeling very proud that I’m back here at West Ham. But I think more importantly I’ll be looking to see what I can do and what I can make improvements to, how we can get some wins with the players and how we can get some quick wins on the field as well.
