Augustana jumps two spots in national rankings

Vikings with three individuals ranked

EDMOND, Okla. – Augustana jumped two spots and is now ranked 14th in the NCAA Division II Wrestling top 20 poll. The Vikings received 53 points and are one of four NSIC teams ranked in the top 20. MSU Moorhead and Northern State were each receiving votes in this edition of the rankings.

Defending national champion Nebraska-Kearney earned the top spot for the second straight week. Central Oklahoma is ranked second, followed by St. Cloud State at third and Upper Iowa fourth.

Nate Herda, who is 10-2 on the season and has not placed lower than second in open tournaments, is ranked fourth in the country at 149 pounds.

Jayd Docken is ranked fifth in the country at 197 pounds and is 6-2 on the season and coming off a title at the MSU Moorhead Open last Saturday.

Jeremiah Peterson makes his debut in the individual rankings this week coming in at eighth at 133 pounds. Peterson is 11-5 on the season and has placed in three of four open tournaments, including first at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.

Augustana opens dual action this Friday, Dec. 7, taking on Northwestern (Iowa), Dakota Wesleyan and the Air Force Academy at the “Battle for the Planes” at Jackson County Central High School in Jackson, Minn. The Vikings take on Northwestern at 3:30 p.m. followed by Dakota Wesleyan at 5 p.m. and Air Force at 8 p.m.
