MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team swept all 10 matches in a 41-0 dual win over Jamestown College Wednesday night at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM improved to 2-0 in duals on the season.

The Dragons were led by a pin from junior Matt Lewellen and a win by technical fall by junior Angel Vega. They also won three matches by major decision and won another by forfeit.

“We came out and got a good start out of Angel Vega and that set the tone,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. “He wrestled aggressive, and we wrestled aggressive throughout the whole dual.”

At 141 pounds, Vega built a 4-1 lead over Jamestown’s Tony Borden with a pair of takedowns in the first period and stretched it to 9-1 in the second period. From there he cruised to a 19-4 win by technical fall to give the Dragons their first five points of the dual.

Junior Casey Williams had a solid match at 149, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to earn a 6-3 decision win over Jamestown’s Sam Brown.

Senior Jacob Bennett made his season debut for MSUM and was solid at 157, earning a 6-2 decision win over Jamestown’s Jaykob Miller as the Dragon lead grew to 11-0.

“We were taking a lot of shots,” Nelson said. “We weren’t sitting back and being defensive. I was happy that everyone wrestled to their ability.”
