Minnesota Crowns Five Champions at Bison Open

After a season-opening win at home last night, the Minnesota Wrestling team continued its weekend competition at the 43rd annual Bison Open. The Gophers claimed five titles on the day in Fargo, N.D.

Nick Dardanes (141), Brad Dolezal (157), Logan Storley (174), Scott Schiller (197), and Tony Nelson (285) each captured individual titles after undefeated runs in the tournament.

Dardanes flew through his weight class with two major decisions and two injury defaults. Dolezal was 5-0 on the day, tallying one technical fall and one major decision. Storley notched two major decisions and on technical fall in the first three rounds and capped the day off with a 6-0 decision over NDSU’s Kurtis Julson.

Schiller pinned Delson Saintal at the 1:34 mark in the quarterfinal and followed with a 4-1 decision over fellow Gopher Joel Bauman for the title. Nelson posted three straight pins to earn his spot in the championship bout. He them pushed past NSU’s Matthew Meuleners, winning by a 3-2 decision.

The Gophers turn their attention to their first Big Ten dual next week. The team travels to Nebraska on Nov. 16. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.
