PSG looking to sign Robert Lewandowski

L’Équipe report tonight that Paris Saint-Germain are targeting  Robert Lewandowski as their attacking reinforcement for this summer, with the Pole ostensibly set to leave Bayern Munich.

Despite new sporting advisor Luis Campos’ intention to move towards a more France-based recruitment strategy, the Polish international has been identified as the player who would bring that extra factor to a squad which already features the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar.

The club are looking for a front man who can lead the line and complement the star trio in a way Mauro Icardi has not been able to. His 50 strikes last season also show he would be able to reduce the team’s Mbappé-dependency in front of goal.

PSG have enquired over his availability several times over the last few seasons, to no avail as Bayern Munich have always turned down their approaches. This has been the case again this season, although with Lewandowski’s contract up at the end of next season and his publicly stated desire to leave, the situation has now changed.

Les Parisiens face competition from Barcelona, who have made the former Borussia Dortmund man their priority signing for the summer. However, the Catalans’ financial situation means getting a move across the line would be difficult – the Germans have already turned down an initial €32m offer from them.

PSG’s financial situation and the loosening of financial fair play puts them at an advantage, although they would be looking to find a new club for Icardi first before moving for Lewandowski. A move would also put Neymar’s PSG career at risk, especially considering the club are open to offers for the Brazilian.
