Pascal Dupraz to leave Saint-Étienne following relegation from Ligue 1

L’Équipe report this afternoon that Pascal Dupraz’s time at Saint-Étienne will not go beyond the end of his current contract, which expires next month, having overseen the team’s relegation from Ligue 1.

The former Toulouse manager arrived midway through the campaign and was able to lift the team from bottom to 18th place, but the team fell at the final hurdle with a play-off loss to Auxerre on penalties last night.

Dupraz has yet to meet with the club’s management, but will do so in the near future in order to make his departure official. Les Verts are now looking to bring back Laurent Batlles, the former Troyes manager and former Saint-Étienne reserves coach after the end of his playing career at the same club in 2012.

Batlles does not necessarily want to take on a job in Ligue 2 though, with potential interest from Lille and Lorient, while a position at Bordeaux would also be enticing to him.

The former midfielder also wants guarantees, notably in terms of the club’s management, having fallen out with presidents Bernard Caïazzo and Roland Romeyer in 2019. The club’s backup plans would be Brest manager Michel Der Zakarian and former Rennes man Sabri Lamouchi.
