Jamie O’Hara says Arsene Wenger is ‘too good’ to manage the current Arsenal squad and backs Jose Mourinho to replace under-fire Unai Emery

The Gunners have won just three of their last nine games in all competitions, while the recent episode which saw Granit Xhaka clash with Arsenal fans has left the club’s fanbase divided – with Emery stripping the midfielder of the captaincy as a result.

With Arsenal seemingly in turmoil, there have some suggestions that the Frenchman could return to the club where he spent 22 years at the helm before calling it a day in May 2018.

Billericay player-manager O’Hara has laughed off those suggestions though, insisting the 70-year-old is on a different level to that of his former employers.

“Arsene Wenger is too good for this Arsenal squad,” he stated. “He left when everyone wanted him out and the grass hasn’t been greener since has it?

“Now people are wanting him back, but I think he’s actually too good for Arsenal.”

Discussing the on-going problems at the Emirates, O’Hara added: “They’re struggling aren’t they?

“When it’s at that stage when results aren’t going your way and the fans start getting on your back then it all starts getting on top of you. That’s what’s happened to Emery.

“And that’s even before you starting talking about the Xhaka incident. They need a result to sort of cool everything down.”

The former Tottenham midfielder also believes Jose Mourinho is the ideal replacement for Emery and would shore up Arsenal’s leaky defence – which has so far seen them ship 15 goals in 11 league games – seven more than third-placed Leicester, who they face at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
