WWE.com released the following preview for tonight’s show:
WWE NXT Preview, Aug. 21, 2019: Matt Riddle finally gets his fight with Killian Dain
After witnessing Killian Dain demolish Matt Riddle with steel ring steps and smash Riddle through tables, the NXT Universe will find out who the tougher man is in a sanctioned match when The Original Bro and The Beast of Belfast square off face-to-face.
WWE NXT Preview: Full Details
After the chaos of TakeOver: Toronto, Riddle and Dain ready for a fight
Matt Riddle and Killian Dain have crossed paths aplenty in recent weeks, and the brutality has only intensified with each altercation. The Beast of Belfast sprang an attack on The Original Bro the last time they were supposed to face off on NXT TV, denying Riddle his long-awaited chance at a fair fight. Riddle then challenged Dain to an impromptu battle at TakeOver: Toronto, and the result was similarly chaotic, capped off by Dain driving Riddle and himself off the entrance stage through two tables below.
This week, finally, the two dangerous warriors will square off in a sanctioned match. The time for sneak attacks and outside-the-ring carnage is over; the tougher man will be decided in the center of the ring when Riddle and Dain clash on NXT, streaming Wednesday at 8/7 C on the award-winning WWE Network.
The Undisputed ERA will be in the house
NXT Champion Adam Cole emerged from TakeOver: Toronto with the title around his waist, but the same can’t be said of his Undisputed ERA running mates, all of whom pledged to be draped in championship gold following the event. There are, however, asterisks attached.
Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly contend that the wrong man was pinned in their title showdown with NXT Tag Team Champions The Street Profits, and a video replay shown on last week’s episode proved that their claim holds water. And while Roderick Strong fell short in his quest to win the NXT North American Title Triple Threat Match in Toronto, it’s important to note that Velveteen Dream retained the title by pinning Pete Dunne, not Strong.
Factor in the black-and-gold brand’s upcoming move to USA Network — a massive announcement that sent shockwaves throughout sports-entertainment — and it’s safe to say The Undisputed ERA aren’t about to give up on fulfilling their all-gold-everything prophecy. To find out exactly what that means for the landscape of NXT, tune in to WWE Network.
Mansoor sizes up Damian Priest
From winning the largest Battle Royal in WWE history at Super ShowDown to notching his first victory on NXT TV, Mansoor has experienced several major triumphs in 2019.
Yet, so has his opponent on this week’s episode, the methodical and dominant Damian Priest. The Archer of Infamy has carved a destructive path since arriving in June and shows no signs of slowing down.
Will Priest add another victory to his record, or can Mansoor do what no Superstar has done so far, and topple The Man of the New Millennium?
The Head Baddie in Charge tangles with The Vision
Vanessa Borne & Aliyah like to label practically every other Superstar a “lower,” but this week The Vision will battle somebody who considers herself nothing less than The Head Baddie in Charge, Mia Yim.
Yim is no doubt looking to rebound after her hard-fought yet unsuccessful bid to dethrone NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler at TakeOver: Toronto. Can The HBIC regain lost momentum with a winning performance against Borne? Or will The Vision — who, it can safely be assumed, will have Aliyah in her corner — deal another tough loss to the blue-haired baddie?
Bronson Reed battles Shane Thorne
The loyalties of the NXT Universe Down Under will be put to the test this week when Bronson Reed faces fellow countryman Shane Thorne. This match is a direct result of a challenge thrown down by Reed after Thorne accused him of “wasting” his opportunity in the NXT Breakout Tournament.
To say Reed and Thorne know each other well would be an understatement considering they rose through the Australian independent wrestling ranks together and Thorne takes credit for getting Reed into NXT. However, with Thorne believing he’s a cut above every Superstar who competed in the NXT Breakout Tournament (a group that included Reed), it appears there is no love lost between the self-described “Black Swan” and “Aus-zilla.”
Expect a hard-hitting battle when Reed’s brand of Australian Strong Style clashes with Thorne’s “meat-pie ugly” offense this week on NXT.
What’s next for Jordan Myles?
The power lies in Jordan Myles’ hands after he defeated Cameron Grimes to win the NXT Breakout Tournament, earning a contract that guarantees him a championship opportunity of his choosing in NXT.
The high-flying Superstar with a contagious smile has so far been mum on which championship he plans to go after, only telling WWE.com that all titleholders should consider themselves put on notice. As the NXT Universe continues to speculate about what Myles’ future holds, will we get clarity on his title ambitions this week?
