Tessa Blanchard Named 2019 Impact Wrestler of the Year

Tessa Blanchard was revealed as the 2019 Impact Wrestler of the Year this Saturday night on a special year-end edition of Impact Wrestling this Saturday night on AXS TV, becoming the first woman in history to win the award.

It’s an interesting pick when you actually consider the wins-and-losses of it all – especially when you consider that she actually lost the match to Sami Callihan at Slammiversary, and he then went on to win the world title – but the decision was made by a fan vote.

Blanchard started off 2019 by losing the Knockouts title to Taya Valkyrie at Impact Homecoming. She rebounded with a big win over Joey Ryan at United We Stand, and defeated Gail Kim in the Hall of Famer’s last match ever at Rebellion.

At Bound for Glory, Blanchard came up short in a violent and chaotic ladder match for the X-Division Championship, but finished off the year strong winning a gauntlet match to become the #1 contender to the world title. That match goes down on 1/12 at Hard To Kill.
