Mustafa Ali Defends WWE Taking Away His Full Name, Claims It’s Already Paying Off

WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali recently sat down with ComicBook.com to discuss the company’s somewhat controversial decision to drop his first name, now simply branding him as “Ali”.

This is certainly the first time a wrestler’s full name has gone missing, or changed entirely without any notice — just ask the likes of Eric Rowan, Luke Harper, Apollo Crews, Elias Samson, Andrade Cien Almas, Big E Langston, and Antonio Cesaro, among others.

Don’t even get us started on the Viking Raiders…

Ali, however, isn’t too worried about WWE’s decision to cut his first name, and in fact has already seen some unexpected benefits.

“I can tell you there’s been a dramatic vocal increase of my name getting chanted during matches,” Ali stated. “As a performer, sometimes I’d be wrestling and one side of the ring would be chanting Mustafa, while the other side of the ring would be chanting Ali and then it just gets muzzled out because no one knows what to chant.”

The former 205 Live star claims that WWE may be able to change his name, but the person behind “Ali” is still very much the same. More over, he is confident the billion dollar company knows what it’s doing, praising WWE for “being in [the]game for a very, very long time…”
