Klaas-Jan Huntelaar targeted as Laurence Stewart replacement at Monaco

De Telegraaf are reporting that AS Monaco are interested in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as a replacement for Chelsea-bound technical director Laurence Stewart.

Stewart, who has been at Monaco for two years, agreed to join the Premier League club in October and will join the Blues following the conclusion of the January transfer window. The delay will allow the Principality club to ensure a smoother transition. As a result, AS Monaco and specifically the club’s sporting director Paul Mitchell are engaged in a recruitment process to find Stewart’s replacement. 

According to De Telegraaf, Huntelaar, who concluded his playing career in July 2021 is in the frame to replace him. The former Netherlands international is currently working at Eredivisie side Ajax. In the absence of a technical director at the Dutch club, Huntelaar forms part of a team that is responsible for the club’s transfer policy. It is not yet known whether he would be receptive to Monaco’s interest. 

Sources contacted by Get French Football News have denied that De Telegraaf’s report linking Huntelaar with a move to AS Monaco.
