Christophe Galtier accuses some PSG players of “restraint” ahead of World Cup

Speaking after Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 victory against Lorient, manager Christophe Galtier said that some of his players showed “restraint” in duels during the match, with just one Ligue 1 match to go before the Qatar World Cup.

Reports surfaced this week that Lionel Messi had asked to be left out of PSG’s final match before the World Cup, which is just a fortnight away. However, these reports have been denied by L’Équipe and RMC. The Argentinian didn’t feature in Sunday’s match against Lorient due to an Achilles issue.

However, Galtier believes that some of those that did feature showed “restraint.”  In a post-match press conference, transcribed by L’Équipe, Galtier said, “Automatically, [the World Cup] is in the heads of the players, when they’re hearing that such and such a player is injured and is ruled out of the World Cup. There will always be a piece of news that will make them doubt. For some, there was a certain restraint, we were sometimes a bit fearful in the duels.”
